How do we critique?
We can use a formal model of critique, like you see below.
We can also us informal critique to voice our opinions and encourage others.

What is critique etiquette?
- Be attentive
-Look at it longer
-Take your time
Think about what you say about it.
Avoid "lazy" words and sentences.
Lazy words are good, awesome, cool, nice.
Do use words like:
This is great because you did __________,_______and______ and is amazing when you did_______.
Look for the aspects of wonder
Be sympathetic to the maker. Be empathetic.
Find how you are connected to the work. How can you relate?

Description: What does it look like
What are the facts. What do you see in the piece. State the obvious. What Elements of Art are in the picture? Analysis:
Think about Art Elements and Principles. How are they present? How did the Artist use Elements and Principles of Design. What is the strongest Element and Principle. Be descriptive. Interpretation:
What is the content and meaning of what you saw in the artwork? What thoughts or feelings do you get when looking at the work? You may need context about the artwork. You may need to gain the information from a source. Judgement:
Your Evaluation of the work. What do you really think about the work? Why is this work effective? Use your Elements and principles to prove your thoughts. Do you like the work? Why? What is your supportive evidence? |
