SIlk Screen Underglaze ProcessesObjectiveCreate a vessel that is well constructed and large. If you are creating a series of things to go together you MUST create an odd number and consider how they will be displayed when documented.
Form:Create a form that is interesting from ALL angles and directions. Craftsmanship needs to be impeccable. Slab works that are well crafted will photograph well.
Composition: Handles and additive process must add interest but not detract from the overall composition. Narrative: Using the rule of odds with colors and textures with contrasting colors Concepts:Storytelling with pottery decoration allowed many ancient civilizations to record unique and revealing narratives of their lives, as a means to record and reinforce their cultural beliefs for coming generations. This was usually integrated into a decorative theme and expressed creatively.
We will explore story telling within the lesson and apply the ideas to the surface of the ceramics you create. Some of the topics you can explore are but not confined to: mythologies, existing stories, personal visions, private stories, memory; human figure, relationships, identity, political and social commentary. The ceramic object itself can be seen as message and metaphor. |
